100 SAPS officers promoted in Mpumalanga

The newly promoted cops were encouraged to lead and take pride in servicing the communities of Mpumalanga.

One hundred police officers have been promoted to new ranks in and effort to strengthen service delivery across Mpumalanga.

The promotions comprise 12 colonels, 33 lieutenant colonels, 40 captains and 15 warrant officers from all three districts in the province.

The acting Mpumalanga police commissioner, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, conferred these officers at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday, February 5.

Mkhwanazi said this conferment sought to recognise achievement and growth and was a clear acknowledgement of capability.

“Promotions aren’t given lightly. These members have showed resilience and have served with dedication, pride and accountability. There are members who have been on the same rank for more than 15 years and it is time they come to lead in the forefront,” Mkhwanazi said.

Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, the new provincial co-ordinator of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, Colonel Hilda Mbuli, and Major General Samuel Sekgobela.

Some officers have been transferred to other police stations. Most will be heading sections such as visible policing, support, client services and detective services.

The ceremony was attended by provincial and district SAPS management.
