Mpumalanga MEC hands over 70m-worth of road maintenance fleet

The handover of the fleet is expected to create job opportunities for young people.

Nineteen brand new graders are set to be distributed to the four districts of Mpumalanga to support road maintenance.

The Mpumalanga MEC for public works, roads and transport, Thulasizwe Thomo, officially handed over the machines worth over R70m at the Riverside Government Complex on Monday, March 9.

Thomo said the graders will not only improve the construction and maintenance of roads but will also create employment opportunities for young people, particularly those with the necessary qualifications.

He revealed that the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport (DPWRT) has received an additional R40m for the next financial year starting on April 1. The funds will be used to acquire more machinery to further strengthen road maintenance.
