Church organisation elevates lives of children and elderly in Pienaar

Masakhane Christian Church Organisation's founder Enos Matukane has taken it upon himself to uplift and support vulnerable communities in Mpumalanga.

Masakhane Christian Churches Organisation (MCCO) is a non-profit organisation founded in January 1991 by Enos Matukane, with a clear and powerful mission: to uplift and support vulnerable communities.

MCCO, based in Pienaar, Msogwaba, has dedicated itself to improving the lives of those in need, including children, the youth, the elderly and people living with disabilities. It strives to be a pillar of hope by providing essential services such as shelter, food and emotional support.

“The organisation is particularly focused on guiding young people toward a brighter future by supporting their education, offering counselling and helping them overcome challenges such as abuse, trauma and social exclusion,” Matukane said.

The organisation is led by committed board members and supported by various committees who work to address pressing social issues affecting their community. MCCO also collaborates with churches, pastors and other stakeholders to extend its impact and reach more people in need.

One of the key challenges is the lack of safe and supportive environments for vulnerable individuals. The organisation envisions establishing a shelter that will provide a safe space for those in crisis.

Matukane there are plans to operate a soup kitchen at least five days a week, ensuring that children receive nutritious meals before school, and that the elderly are also cared for through feeding programmes and activities.

MCCO’s mission extends beyond immediate relief. “We are committed to long-term empowerment by equipping community members with sustainable skills, promoting education and encouraging entrepreneurship among young people. The goal is to create a self-reliant community where individuals can support themselves and others,” Matukane said.

The organisation also places strong emphasis on social awareness and education. Through its programmes, MCCO addresses critical issues such as HIV/Aids, tuberculosis, cancer and teenage pregnancy, while advocating for the importance of education and personal development.

The hope is to establish initiatives such as a crèche to support working families and a bursary scheme to help young people pursue higher education.
MCCO is currently seeking donors and partners who are willing to support their mission and help bring these initiatives to life.

“Contributions of any kind, financial, material, or volunteer support will make a meaningful difference in the lives of many,” said Matukane.
