Hazyview hikers combine fitness and friendship in nature

Lowveld Hiking Club has rapidly expanded from a small group of 35 into a vibrant community of 180 members, drawing large crowds of young people eager to combine fitness with the stunning scenery of Hazyview.

The Lowveld Hiking Club (LHC) is growing across the Hazyview area as more young people join to exercise and lead a healthy lifestyle while simultaneously enjoying beautiful Lowveld scenery.

According to the club’s founder, Themba Mashego, the hiking group was formed in March 2025 with 35 people who shared a love for the outdoors. Since then, it has grown into a strong family of 180 members, with more than 90 hikers showing up for every outing.

“We are more than just a hiking club; we are a family. We do all these trails together, helping each other along the way. We come together to explore the beautiful Lowveld, breathe fresh air and take a break from the stress of everyday life. With every hike, we promote health, happiness and mental well-being while building real friendships and connections.”

The club invites anyone who wants to join to do so. “We want young and old to live a healthy lifestyle and live longer, not by using a paid gym, but by being out in nature, which is free.”

All the club’s trails are across the Lowveld region and range from 10km to 30km.
