The arts and entertainment industry in Mpumalanga is mourning the death of Senziwe Maliba, a poet known for her powerful pen and voice. Maliba passed away on April 28.

She will be remembered for the remarkable performances, including ushering President Cyril Ramaphosa with praises at the State of the Nation Address in Cape Town in February 2024. She also ushered for the Mpumalanga premier, Mandla Ndlovu, at his State of the Province Address in 2025.

Maliba made a name for herself as a voice-over artist and radio presenter, but it was her praise poetry that catapulted her into the public spotlight. She performed at the 2017 Mayoral Heritage Month celebration, Indoni Cultural South Africa Pageant in 2018, and the Ingoma Awards in 2011.
Her final public appearance was at the memorial service of her mentor, Annah Mziyako, on April 10.

Community members shared posts of her past performances and tribute messages on Facebook to honour her legacy she had created. One of the messages was from the former Mrs Curve Globe, Lucia Simelane-Ochan.

It was an honour to witness your growth, passion, and dedication to culture and heritage,” Simelane-Ochan said.

The City of Mbombela executive mayor, Sibongile Makhushe-Mazibuko, also reflected some moments they shared together. She mentioned that they were planning for the upcoming City of Mbombela State of Municipality Address.
