I was emotionally torn asunder by the passing of this great African son of the soil. Mandela was the embodiment of humility and selflessness, an icon of all icons, leader of all leaders, one of the rarest of rare lives. He was an Iroko, the greatest moral giant of this epoch.
Let it never cease to fill our thoughts that the sweetest words of eulogy will not be enough to demonstrate our love for Madiba. .We will be truly celebrating his life, and mourning the loss of it, only when we replicate the Madiba character, the Mandela spirit, in our private and public lives.
If only we would allow Mandela to live on in each and every one of us as Africans then the world will be a better place.
The time has come for us to embrace our African unity and togetherness (ubuntu) with sincerity of purpose, unyielding faith and genuine love for one another.
Let’s imbibe the spirit of willingness to serve when there is no expectation of reward, willingness to love when we are unloved or hated, willingness to forgive even in the absence of contrition, and willingness to give when there is no expectation that we will receive.
His physical body is done and gone, but let the Mandela spirit be resurrected in full force and let’s keep it alive!
