The undermined power of social media

Social media is here to stay, let’s use it to market, advertise and develop brands.

It’s election time, everyone wants to reach more people to get votes. I feel there is one area which is not better utilized to its potential to attract and convey messages.

Like it or not, social media makes or breaks brands. Every organization needs to utilize social media to convey messages to its target audience.

Social media strategy must be incorporated into the marketing strategy of an organization in order to communicate in one voice to avoid conveying different messages that may confuse your audience.

Political parties and organizations are busy spending a lot of money for marketing and advertising to win votes. That money could be used to promote service delivery. If social media was used correctly, they could save 70% of their marketing and advertising budget.

Let’s forget not that the “now” generation which is more than 15 million online active users, prefer social media platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter, Mxit, Instagram etc. Through social media, you get all news information quickly and easily without watching television or radio.

The latest S.A Social Media stats indicate the following:
Facebook 9.4 million active users
Mxit 7.4 Million users
Twitter 5.5 million users
Instagram 680 000 users

NB: Social media is here to stay, let’s use it to market, advertise and develop brands.
