Killing of police sabotages safety

The Allen Christian Evangelical League of the African Methodist Episcopal Church writes:

As a church we strongly believe that police are there to protect and ensure the safety of every South African.

They are there to ensure that we walk in the streets of our communities without any fear, they are there to root out any form of criminal activities within our societies and they are there maintain law and order.

Therefore they don’t deserve to be killed but to respected and honored for their efforts to keep criminals at bay.

The killing of South African Police members by criminals undermines the constitution and the security of our country. It also deprives us as South Africans of an opportunity to attract investors who in turn shall help in improving the economy of our country.

The killing of police members affects families as children become orphans, wives become widows and husbands becomes widowers, and by so doing the stability of families has been affected.

Men and women in blue, when they wake up every morning to report for duty leaving their families behind, their aim is to go out there and provide safety to their beloved country and its own citizens not to be maimed by senseless criminals who are out there to destabilise our beloved Republic of South Africa.

But as a church we cannot afford to keep quiet when members of the police are being killed, we strongly condemn those killings as it compromises the safety and integrity of our country.

As a church we shall not cease to pray for members of the South African Police Service not to be discouraged by the killings, but to go out there to protect innocent civilians and win the battle against criminals and eradicate crime within our society.

We shall motivate, encourage and offer spiritual support to them not to lose hope as the master Jesus Christ is forever in control. We shall unceasingly pray to the Almighty God to strengthen our police members not to surrender nor retreat, but to face those criminals head-on.

Statistics show that one police member is in charge of at least 300 people and when they are being ambushed by insane criminals as a country, we are not only being destabilised but also the safety of our people is being compromised.

When officials are being killed the number of police to police our members is reduced drastically and that is a great concern to us, hence we are calling on all South Africans to expose those senseless killers who are hell bent on terrorising our beloved police.

Some of the senseless killers are our friends, family members, colleagues and fellow church members. Let us stop hero worshipping, embracing them and taking them as role models. Killing of one police member is too much and thus as a church we are totally against the brutal killing of police members.

As South Africans, let us see members of the police as people who are there to protect and serve us with dignity not as our enemies. Let us love, support and have confidence in them.

Lastly, we call upon the higher authorities in the South African Police Service and the government to ensure that members of the police are always protected by being provided with bulletproof vest and necessary ammunition at all times.
