I wish I could start all my blogs with the line ‘pregnancy is so beautiful’… but unfortunately I have to be creative when writing this.
It’s a bit of a difficulty though, because apparently pregnant people are not so smart and luckily they are not expected to be.
I’ve read somewhere that pregnant people get an exception for being dumb and forgetful, blame it on the hormones. Speaking of exceptions, I should also mention that we get excused for being rude and moody sometimes, because hormones are nature’s own crazy makers, and they take the fall for every mishap.
It is said that every mother-to-be should take advantage of the point in the pregnancy where it’s not known by many. I totally agree.
Once you start showing, you become a magnet for hands, and everyone suddenly has something to say about it, something their grandmother told them centuries ago. Even those of us who have never been pregnant suddenly have a voice, we just love South Africa.
I can’t wear or eat anything in peace anymore, without having somebody telling me that it’s not good for the baby. “You can’t wear tight jeans anymore.” “You can’t eat hot food anymore.” “You can’t wear high heels anymore.”
Here’s my best one… I was once told I can’t wear any sort of belt over my stomach because the baby will be tangled in the intestines. LOL. I know! Even though I find all of these things funny, sometimes I do worry, just a little bit.
Growing up, my great grandmother, we used to call her Magogwana, used to warn me not to take out the pot from the fire with the lid on, because I could give birth to a baby who is deaf and dumb. Terrifying!
These are just a few things amongst the stuff I go through every day. I’m walking on egg shells just by living. I think I will one day be told not to breathe, because it’s going to harm the baby. I won’t even talk about the food struggle here, maybe on my next blog. Being pregnant is amazing, yet terrifying in every way. People tell you all sorts of things, sometimes without even thinking about whatever they want to say.
I was also told that blogging about my pregnancy will cause me unnecessary enemies and misfortunes.
“What if you lose the baby?” “Why do you have to blog about it? It’s supposed to be private.”
This amazing journey is meant to be enjoyed in every way possible, because there’s nothing like it. This is what I’ve learned by myself. And no, you can’t hide or keep it private; it’s out there as obvious evidence.
I always say that pregnancy is like character, you can’t hide it for long.
For first timers like this one typing here, it’s twice as amazing because everything is new, exciting and all sorts of wonderful.
Why not share it with the rest of the world if you have the platform?
See you next week!
