Sivutsa Stars kick-off their NFD campaign

Local soccer team set to make a mark in the Ntional First Division.

Sivutsa Stars open their 2013/14 National First Division campaign this weekend against the newly promoted Limpopo side, Baroka FC.

This Sunday will see Stars travel all the way to Polokwane, at the Peter Mokaba Stadium to meet the team that once embarrassed Premier Soccer League giants, Kaizer Chiefs by eliminating them from the Nedbank Cup.

Stars make this long trip with enough talented players, to give new coach John Tlale a headache to pick. Sivutsa Stars boss, Derrick Khoza, after attending the team’s first few training sessions, is convinced that the boys are ready for glory.

“This Sunday’s game against Baroka FC will actually help us see whether we are going forward or just following others.

“But, I am convinced that the boys will do better not just this Sunday but throughout the season as we fight for promotion to the PSL,” said Khoza.

“This season we are going to up our game and with the crop of players who are hungry for success, combined with the experience of the coaching staff, I am certain that we will go far. But the journey begins on Sunday and we need to prove ourselves there before worrying about home games.

“If we are to go all the way, we need to start collecting more points during the first round,” Khoza further said.

This year’s competition is however not going to be easy since there are teams such as the Black Leopards, Chippa United, Jomo Cosmos, Santos and the other Mpumalanga based team, Witbank Spurs who fought good and hard the past season, finishing within the top-eight bracket.

But even with the tough competition ahead, Khoza was confident that they would do better.

In another opening thriller, Witbank Spurs entertain Thanda Royal Zulu on the same day at the former Black Aces home stadium, the Puma Stadium in Witbank.
