Two friends with one thing in common – not being ‘nine to fivers’ – found a way to make a living out of a hobby, and are having a barrel of laughs along the way. By Ciska Kay

Adéle Jacobs and Chantel Koch make rustic photo frames and basic furniture – headboards, small servers and cabinets. Adéle is an entrepreneurial spirit and has owned a few businesses while Chantel is the artistic one. It was Adéle who came up with the idea. “She said let’s klap a plan,” laughs Chantel.
They started playing with wood a few years ago. It paid off, as since June last year, both girls have been involved in the frame-making game full-time. “Call it a hobby that exploded,” says Adéle.
