"Recently I underwent cataract surgery at Nelspruit's Lowveld Hospital."

Recently I underwent cataract surgery at Nelspruit’s Lowveld Hospital. What a remarkable and pleasurable experience it was! At reception I was welcomed by two friendly ladies, Michelle de Gouveia and Leticia Mbuyane, who immediately
made me feel at home. Shortly afterwards I was accompanied to the admittance before being taken to my ward.
Charming Charlotte de Vos went about the operation preparations and I could not help but notice the high quality linen, curtaining, furniture and general appearance of the establishment. Then with a friendly smile and handshake the anaesthetist, Dr Theo Endemann introduced himself. Instead of the usual procedural questions this Free State doctor first made me feel comfortable with a general conversation regarding my family and occupation and assured me all would be well. In the meantime Sister De Vos continued with eye drops, blood pressure readings and other surgery preparation. Shortly afterwards I was wheeled off to the operation theatre. Obviously a little nervous, the specialist Dr Johan Eksteen – a friendly young doctor – patted me on the shoulder and told me to relax as everything was under control. The operation, performed under local anaesthetic was totally painless, but what really impressed me was the friendly conversation of nursing staff during the procedure.
After a hearty breakfast, and accompanied by my grand-and-great granddaughters, I was discharged. As we left the friendly receptionists Michelle and Leticia bid me farewell and told me to return soon –
just for a visit. Lowveld Hospital, the doctors, medical staff and all the employees receive full marks in my book.
Today I am happy to have had my eyesight restored. We are grateful to have a modern hospital with capable staff
in the beautiful Lowveld. “
