MBOMBELA – More than 200 women, with the South African Women’s Entrepreneurs Network, celebrated Women’s Month last Wednesday.
The initiative was intended to bring healthy issues to females, focusing on business executives in the region by embarking on a fun walk of 2,5 kilometres.

National programme coordinator of capacity building, Ms Thabo Nkalane said the initiative had been rolled out in five provinces and Mpumalanga’s Mbombela was the sixth stop.

“The initiative aspires to encourage health and wellness among women. We have mobile clinics for health screening so that after their exercise, they will test sugar levels and high blood pressure,” he said.

All the women took part in aerobics with Virgin Active’s guidance conducted by Mr Dan Mametse. Afterwards they attended the mobile clinic to test sugar levels and blood pressure.

Ms Elizabeth Thabethe, deputy minister of Small Business Development was part of the commemoration. She participated in aerobics in a bid to encourage females to prioritise their health and always walk at least a kilometre a day.

“Walking will help you heal most of your unknown illnesses. Most women get sick because they don’t walk. They are always in a car back and forth to work or anywhere else,” said Thabethe.

She further stated that exercise would keep them alive and healthy. It will also help keep their businesses sustainable.
The first three women in the fun walk received trophies as an encouragement to keep on exercising for a healthy life.
