Through the grapevine

This is your weekly dose of what's happening in and around Mbombela.

This weekend was the ANC’s birthday, and Mpumalanga News was there to capture all the moments, from a humorous perspective.

Firstly, the national anthem was sung by someone with a squeaky voice. We have never heard the anthem in a staccato voice and would have liked to keep it that way. Next time, the ANC should record that version.

A moment of silence was observed for the late chairperson of the women’s league. The programme director called out, “A moment of silent”. Instead of silence, the crowd continued talking. Again she said, “Moment of silent, ishokutsi asithule!” next time the programme director should just say it straight in vernacular.

Birthdays are always accompanied by cake. It was curtly announced, “Now is the time for the birthday khekhe”. As we laughed, it arrived, carried by members of the MKVA, and the khekhe was cut!

Chewing gum should be banned at events. In fact, some comrades make it look so terrible. Can you imagine a sleepy guy chewing gum, on stage nogaal. Lastly, We did not know our premier could get down like that. Yes, we saw you when Cassper Nyovest went on stage. In fact, nonke niyayishaya i-dab.
