Through the grapevine: Fear mediocrity!

Say what you like, but it cannot be ignored that the Sunrise Women Awards women in sport category winner raised eyebrows.

It seems some Mbombela event organisers aren’t afraid of mediocrity, judging by some of the winners at the Sunrise Women Awards last weekend.

Well, no offence to others who won in their respective categories, including Bobo Lukhele and Sibongile Mkani-Mpolweni from the SABC. Congrats ladies!

But do votes still really count? Surely the organisers have all the answers, but it would be ideal for them to do thorough research from all the corners of the province and to advertise on various platforms next time. Or maybe there’s certain criteria for the category? Fill us in, asseblief.

Consulting relevant people with knowledge and expertise is not a crime, because obviously one cannot be a player and referee at the same time. To the anacondas and cobras who portray themselves as true friends and claim to advocate for women and everything else under the sun, yet gain jollies and rejoice at your friends’ flops: The rainy season is coming, lightning will strike you!

Women, let us try to be saved by criticism instead of being ruined by praise. Billy Brown and team, we wish you the best, but research more and choose people you let into your space wisely. Oh, and by the way, ladies, when attending marches, it really isn’t necessary to show up in your killer heels. Even beauty pageant queens got the memo.

Have a great weekend and remember this: If you can’t say it to their face, do not post it!

May the force be with you!
