Minister Lamola to address a Gala Dinner hosted by International Association of Women Judges

The Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola, will address a Gala Dinner Hosted by the South African Chapter of the International Association (SACIA) of Women Judges.

The address will take place in White River at the Ingwenyama Resort on Thursday, the Gala Dinner forms part of the SACIA 15th annual conference that will be hosted from 8-9 August in Mbombela in partnership with the University of Mpumalanga.

The Conference will be observed under the theme: Women Empowerment: A Shawl and a shield in the fight against sexual and gender violence.

Officially launched on 08 August 2004, the South African Chapter was established following facilitation by the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

The Association consists of magistrates as well as judges and it is mandated to spearhead a transformation in the South African judiciary through the advancement of women empowerment.

The Association empowers women judicial officers through continued education, skills development and mentoring programmes with the department providing financial and secretarial support.

Among other topics to be discussed during the conference are the following: Education and training, women empowerment, the South African Constitution as well as International instruments seeking to afford women and children better protection.
