According to the driver of one bakkie, Paris Nkongwane, there were six people in his vehicle.
He claimed that the driver of the vehicle in front of him turned without indicating. “The bakkie in front did not give a signal on time that he was going to turn to the right. I tried to swerve but it was too late. I hit the side of the other bakkie and lost control of my vehicle, which overturned and rolled twice before it stopped. One of the people killed was sitting in the front passenger seat, and the other with those who were injured, on the back,” he said.

“An investigation is under way to determine the cause of the accident. Motorists are urged to drive with caution when approaching the area or use alternative routes to avoid delays. I would like to call on motorists to always be cautious on the road, and give a signal on time if they are going to turn or stop. Condolences to the family of the deceased and we wish the injured a speedy recovery,” Mmusi said.
