Renowned Mpumalanga runner claims place once

Once again, Abednico Mashaba makes history after coming first in a race that was held in kwaNyamazane stadium followed by Samuel Mathabatha of Bella's Athletic Club.

Abednico Mashaba of Uniwisp continued his winning streak when he claimed first place in the KaNyamazane 2-in-1 on Saturday, March 21.

The 4.9km and 10km race started and finished at KaNyamazane Stadium. They were organised by KaNyamazane Marathon Club (KMC).

Mashaba clocked 30:50.90, followed by Samuel Mathabatha of Bella’s Athletic Club with a time of 31:05.40. Prince Ndlovu of Bella’s Athletics Club finished third in 31:34.50.

Nomvula Sithole of Ngodwana Marathon Club won the women’s race in 44:05.60, with Nonhlanhla Fortein in second with 46:14.70. Vanessa Mkhabele took third in 48:44.4, and was also the women’s junior category winner.

In the men’s junior category, Asande Mfundo Akhona Mazibuko took first place in 34:28.70, and Simiso Njomo scooped second in 38:48.70.

• 40+ women: Bongiwe Magagula – 1:27:31.50     
• 60+ women: Estelle Bullen – 1:28:17.40
• 70+ women: Veronica Doubell – 1:28:20.60
• 40+ men: Sbusiso Thwala – 1:04:42.50
• 50+ men: Moris Maiga – 35:42.90

KMC founder Pr Sipho Langa said the organisation plans to introduce a 21km race in the future. He was pleased with the event’s success and grateful for the support shown.
