Japanese Film Festival comes to Jozi
The 22nd Japanese Film Festival will be coming to Johannesburg this weekend with films screening at Rosebank Mall’s Cinema Nouveau.
The purpose of the film festival being screened each year is to bring the best of international art house cinema to South African audiences, Sandton Chronicle reported
The festival is co-organised by the Embassy of Japan in South Africa and the Japan Foundation, much like the European Film Festival is organised by the Goethe Institute and various other European organisations in South Africa.
What makes this festival even more appealing to lovers of diverse cinema is that screenings of all the movies in the festival are free to the public.
The Japanese Film Festival is aimed at promoting an understanding of Japanese culture among South Africans. Since the beginning of the month, the festival has been taken to Brooklyn Nouveau at Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria and V&A Nouveau at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Films that will be screened during the festival include: Until the Break of Dawn, The KirishimaThing, WOOD JOB! and My Little Sweet Pea.
Appealing to the wide range of anime-lovers in the country, the festival even features a full animation, anime-style movie, Tamako Love Story.
The festival will run from 16-18 October at Cinema Nouveau.
