Gauteng Covid-19 cases climb to 12 193

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Gauteng stood at 12 193 with 3 442 recoveries and 87 deaths on Monday, according to a statement published by the Department of Health on Tuesday.

The department said out of 19 843 contacts traced (individuals who were in contact with a person tested positive for Covid-19), 13 325 people have completed the 14 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and were de-isolated.

The department said 572 people were currently hospitalised in the public and private facility.

Breakdown per district of cases and recoveries:

• Johannesburg: 6 071 cases and 1 875 recoveries
• Ekurhuleni: 2 443 cases and 809 recoveries
• Tshwane: 1 710 cases and 405 recoveries
• Sedibeng: 339 cases and 65 recoveries
• West Rand: 912 cases and 288 recoveries
