South Africa 5th on global Covid-19 list of infections
The number of confirmed cases increased by 13 285 since Friday, and 144 more people have died.

South Africa is now fifth on the global Covid-19 list of infections (according to the John Hopkins University and medicine resource centre) having recorded a total of 350 879 confirmed Covid-19 cases, the department of health announced on Saturday.
This is an increase of 13 285 new infections from Friday.
In that time, 144 more deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the country to 4 948.
According to data released by the department, a total of 182 230 recoveries have been recorded to date. This translates to a recovery rate of about 52%.
A total of 2 422 741 Covid-19 tests have been conducted.
The following confirmed Covid-19 cases have been detected in each province, according to the data released on Saturday:
- Gauteng: 1 28 604 cases
- Western Cape: 60 976 cases
- KwaZulu-Natal: 40 086 cases
- Eastern Cape: 60 976 cases
- Limpopo: 4 490 cases
- Mpumalanga: 6 644 cases
- North West: 13 400 cases
- Northern Cape: 2 197 cases
- Free State: 9 004 cases
- Unallocated: 67 cases
