The 58-year-old ward councillor stands accused of the rape of a 14-year-old girl.

The 58-year-old ward councillor, accused of the rape of a 14-year-old girl, abandoned his bail application in the Kgapane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 14 October, according to a statement issued by Social Development Spokesperson, Witness Tiva.

The man is accused of the rape a 14-year-old girl and was arrested on 4 October in Mokwakwaila outside Tzaneen, after the minor revealed her ordeal to her mother. The alleged incident happened on Thursday, 1 October.

In earlier police reports it stated that the victim had reportedly accepted a lift from the accused, whereby he drove to a secluded location and raped her.

It is further alleged that after the incident he took her home and bribed her with money and a cellphone to not reveal what had happened.

The police were notified of the incident after the victim told her mother.

Today’s court proceedings were attended by the MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale, while members of the ANC Women’s League chanted outside the courthouse, calling for the court not to grant bail to the accused.
