Voëlklip: Search for little girl after car goes over cliff

The mother's body has been recovered from the water.

Five boats with NSRI crew and police divers, as well as an Air Mercy Services (AMS) rescue helicopter are currently searching for a 2-year-old girl after the vehicle she, her brother (8) and their mother (34) were travelling in left the road and went over the edge near the Voëlklip viewpoint in Herold’s Bay earlier today, Thursday 21 January.

By some miracle the boy managed to fall out of the car as it went down the cliff. He sustained mild injuries and has been transported to hospital with ER24 paramedics.

The mother’s body has since been recovered from the water.

This is the fourth vehicle that has gone over the cliff near Voëlklip since Heidi Scheepers and her two children went over the edge in October 2019.

After her, Zonita Basson went over in a red Chevrolet Spark and after that, almost a year ago to the date, on 29 January, an unidentified businessman from PE went over in a Ford Ecosport.
