Post Office introduces new system to collect R350 social relief of distress grant

POLOKWANE – Following successful implementation in the Eastern Cape and Gauteng, the Post Office has introduced a system for beneficiaries who collect their R350 social relief of distress grant in Limpopo, the Free State, North West and Mpumalanga.

According to Communications Manager, Johan Kruger, the system has been implemented to reduce waiting time and make it easier for beneficiaries to comply with social distancing requirements.

“Each day of the week is reserved for different beneficiaries, depending on the last three digits of their ID numbers. As 22 March is a public holiday, the days move one day forward after that,” Kruger explained.

Pay dates:

Kruger said the first week of each month is reserved for paying grants to the elderly, disabled and for child grants.

“The Post Office has introduced separate queues at its branches to help reduce waiting time and to ensure social distancing. One queue is reserved for beneficiaries of the R350 grant while the other queue is for all other transactions,” he added.

There will be queue walkers who will check ID numbers to ensure that the system is implemented.

“For more information, clients are encouraged to call SASSA at 080 060 1011 from 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. Alternatively, they can visit the SASSA website on www.sassa.gov.za,” Kruger concluded.
