Ladysmith KZN: Son allegedly stabs mother 35 times

The woman had stab wounds to her hands, chest, stomach and back.

A horrific and gruesome murder over the weekend has sent shock-waves throughout Ladysmith.

A 47-year-old woman was stabbed 35 times, allegedly by her 19-year-old son. The woman was rushed to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital, where she later died as a result of the wounds she sustained in the attack.

According to Ladysmith police spokesperson Captain Bongani Nyathi, the stabbing took place in Van Riebeeck Park on Saturday (March 6).

The woman had 13 stab wounds to her hands, chest and stomach, and an additional 22 stab wounds in her back.

Captain Nyathi added that the deceased’s 19-year-old son handed himself over to police.

A case of murder is currently being investigated.
