Pretoria cops concerned about spikes placed on highways

In the past 12 months, a number of hijackings and robberies were reported in the north and east of Pretoria.

Boschkop police warn motorists travelling along the N4 between Pretoria and Witbank to take precautions due to spikes being put on the roads by criminals.

In the past 12 months, a number of hijackings and robberies were reported in the north and east of Pretoria.

“We would like to put special emphasis on the Easter holidays. Motorists making use of the N4 between Pretoria and Witbank have to be extra careful,” said Boschkop police spokesperson Sergeant Yeroboam Mbatsane.

“Robbers place sharp spikes in the middle of the road to puncture vehicle tyres. These robberies are becoming increasingly worse and as police, we advise motorists to avoid driving at night,” he said.

Mbatsane said those forced to drive at night should be alert and watch out for objects on the road.

“The modus operandi remains the same; once you drive into the spikes, you’ll be forced to stop due to the puncture. Robbers will appear from nowhere and rob you.”

Mbatsane said police were currently conducting operations and patrols on the N4 highway.
