Salvokop Blue Train derailment under investigation

“There were no passengers on the train and no fatalities or injuries were reported.”

PRETORIA – The derailment of two coaches of the Blue Train within the Salvokop Blue Train trainyard at the weekend was being investigated.

“There were no passengers on the train and no fatalities or injuries were reported,” Transnet’s Sibu Majozi said in a statement on Monday.

This was after the two coaches derailed within the yard and not on the mainline during mid-morning on Sunday.

Transnet’s Freight Rail recovery team was understood to currently be on-site, clearing the scene and restoring service.

“Normal services will resume on Monday, January 24, 2022,” Majozi said.

Local and international guests were also reassured that their safety remained top of Transnet’s priorities.

“The Blue Train is given a safety clearance certificate before any trip. It is thus important that we ensure full restoration before service resuming,” Majozi said.

The Blue Train’s guest relations team was in contact with guests who were affected by the derailment regarding alternative arrangements.

The Blue Train derailed in Germiston in November of last year. No passengers were on board.
