Four reportedly killed in shootout on Higginson Highway near Durban

A shootout between police and suspected burglars occurred on a busy highway near Durban earlier on Wednesday.

A shootout with police on the Higginson Highway near Durban reportedly left four suspects dead and one injured as they attempted to evade arrest, earlier today.

Reports from the scene indicate that the suspects were wanted for house break-ins across the eThekwini region, as police finally caught up to them after a chase, which supposedly ensued from Lamontville.

A source said that during the incident, one of the suspects attempted to escape the scene, getting as far at the N2, before being shot and killed by police officers. The vehicle used by the suspects was reportedly stolen.

The Citizen reported that ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said the scene is currently cordoned off and still active.
