The bail application of Louis Grobler, a local farmer accused of attempted murder and assault resumed in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court today.

Grobler is charged with three counts of attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grevious bodily harm.

This stems from an incident on his farm where Grobler is said to have allegedly run over two children and allegedly assaulted another.

During his previous appearance on last Friday he was remanded in custody and the case was postponed to today after the magistrate ruled that the application would be resumed once the court was notified that the J-88 forms, recording injuries sustained by the victims, were available.

The court had to take a break at one point because a power outage halted proceedings.

When the court resumed, Magistrate Thibedi Motsepe weighed in on the matter and made his closing remarks.

Conditional bail of R30 000 was granted to the defendant.

The court case has been postponed to 29 August pending further investigation.

Outside court, many people have questioned the political parties’ involvement, claiming that the issue has been politicised and that the whole case has been misconstrued and turned into a racial free-for-all.

Political party members and representatives were there once more, some waving posters bearing inaccurate and entirely different names for the accused.

On various local and national media houses’ comment sections, some people are even under the wrongful impression that Grobler had killed and robbed the children.
