More powerful Peugeot Landtrek 2.2 appears headed for SA
A Pretoria dealer appeared to let the cat out of the bag about a new Landtrek variant expected to join Peugeot’s South African line-up
The Peugeot Landtrek range in South Africa looks set to receive a performance upgrade with the expected arrival of a 2.2-litre turbodiesel engine, reports The Citizen.
The engine produces 147kW and 450Nm, up substantially from the 110kW and 350Nm produced by the existing 1.9l Multijet turbodiesel.
A Pretoria-based dealer group named the Landtrek in a weekend Facebook post announcing the arrival of the 2.2l oil-burner, along with an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
The engine is already used in the Peugeot Boxer van and, in South America, by the Landtrek’s sibling, the Fiat Titano and smaller Toro, paired with either a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.
The dealership post also mentions two-wheel drive for the Allure trim level.
However, Peugeot parent company Stellantis has yet to officially confirm the South African introduction of the 2.2l engine, and no details have been published on its website.
More power, more towing ability
The arrival of the 2.2l engine would give the Landtrek a significant increase in output over the current 1.9l diesel.
It could also increase the bakkie’s towing capacity from the current 3 000kg to 3 500kg, bringing it in line with the industry standard for many double-cab bakkies.
The 2.2l is one of three engines available for the Landtrek in other markets, alongside the 1.9-litre diesel and a 2.4l turbo-petrol engine.
The Mexican-market Ram 1200, which shares its underpinnings with the Landtrek, is offered with the 2.2-litre engine as its sole powertrain.
Landtrek revisions
The current Landtrek range comprises five variants, including four double cabs and one single cab, all powered by the 1.9l Multijet producing 110kW and 350Nm.
The model received a facelift at the end of 2024, bringing subtle exterior changes and an updated interior.
The facelift also introduced a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster, updated infotainment software and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto through the 10-inch system.
Price and launch
There is currently no official launch date or pricing for the Landtrek 2.2 in South Africa.
For now, the existing Landtrek range is priced as follows:

- Landtrek 1.9 Multijet Active 4×4 – R556 900

A formal announcement from Peugeot is expected to provide confirmation of the engine, specifications, variants and pricing.
