Two children, a brother and sister, were left in a critical condition after a driver, believed to be their father, crashed into a building on the corner of Johannes Nkosi Street (Alice Street) just before Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street (Grey Street) last night after 23:00.

Garrith Jamieson, spokesperson for Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics describes the incident as a ‘horrific collision’.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find carnage. A single luxurious sports vehicle had somehow lost control and crashed into shop fronts on the roadside,” says Jamieson.

Jamieson says ALS paramedics arrived on the scene to find that a young girl, believed to be 11, had been ejected from the vehicle on impact, while a boy, aged about nine, was trapped in the wreckage.

“[The girl] was in a critical condition and needed Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise her. She was placed on a manual ventilator before being rushed to a nearby hospital for the urgent care she required.

“Her brother was found inside the wreckage, he too had sustained critical injuries and was also stabilised on scene before being rushed to a nearby hospital for further care,” said Jamieson.

The driver, believed to be the children’s father had sustained moderate injuries and was treated on scene.”

“At this stage, the events leading up to the crash are unknown, however, SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further,” says Jamieson.
