Weekend accidents claim 15 lives in Mpumalanga, Gauteng and Free State

Two accidents in Mpumalanga claimed 12 lives yesterday.

It was a bloody weekend on South African roads. In Mpumalanga, five people were killed near eMalahleni and six people perished on the N4 near Mbombela yesterday. On Saturday, a young man was killed and his friend critically injured in an accident near Lydenburg in Mpumalanga, one person was killed and three others injured in Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, while two others lost their lives in an accident near Parys in the Free State.

One dead, three injured after vehicle rolls

The Sedibeng Ster reports that a man was killed, and three others injured when their vehicle rolled on Hendrik van Eck Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark. When paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the deceased lying outside while the injured patients were found inside the vehicle. The cause of the accident is unknown.

Two dead after vehicle rolls near Parys

A man and woman were killed after their vehicle rolled near Parys on Saturday night. The Parys Gazette reports that the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle whereafter it rolled. The driver was not injured. A fourth passenger was taken to hospital to be treated.

The Witbank News reports that five people were killed and one critically injured after the Volkswagen Golf they were travelling in overturned and rolled several times yesterday morning. The deceased were ejected from the vehicle during the accident.

Six killed in horror accident on N4

An accident between a truck and Mercedes sedan claimed the lives of six people. The Lowvelder reports the accident happened on the N4 near Montrose towards Mbombela yesterday afternoon. Three adults and three children between the ages of two and seven who were travelling in the car, died on impact. The Mercedes burst into flames, but the fire could be extinguished, and the entrapped driver who was critically injured, freed from the wreckage.

Young man killed after collision with truck

Two young men, travelling in a Mitsubishi double cab bakkie, collided with a truck on the R36 near Lydenburg in Mpumalanga on Saturday around 12:40.

The Lowvelder reports that it is suspected that head injuries caused the death of one of the young men while the second was transported to the Lydenburg hospital in critical condition. He was airlifted to Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg after he was stablised.
