Gauteng parolee re-arrested in joint operation

Three men were nabbed after a task force were informed about a group who terrorised members of two communities.

A murder suspect, who was out on parole, is one of three men who were recently nabbed during a joint operation in various parts of Gauteng.

The operation by the EMPD Bronberg, Daveyton, Etwatwa and Kingsway precincts, along with the SAPS Task Team, received information on the whereabouts of a group of men who have been terrorising the communities of Mayfield and Maswazini section in Daveyton outside Benoni.

The men were also wanted in connection with an incident where a person was held at gunpoint in the Putfontein area.

EMPD spokesperson chief superintendent Kelebogile Thepa said the information led the officers to an address in Swazi Street, where they apprehended two suspects matching the descriptions.

“When interrogated, the suspects disclosed an address in the Maswazini section where another suspect could be located.

“The officers went to Andy Crescent where they apprehended a third suspect who is allegedly linked to the shooting of an EMPD member at Mayfield Mall on August 15.

“The three were taken to Daveyton Police Station where two were arrested for the incident where a person was held at gunpoint and they will soon appear in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court. It was established that the third suspect was a parolee who was sought for murder in Daveyton.

“He was escorted to Modderbee Prison by officials from correctional services,” Thepa said.
