Watch: Giant crocodile spotted in Mbombela township

Residents fear for their safety and some also reported that their dogs are missing, presumably eaten by the reptile.

A giant crocodile was spotted between some houses in Matsulu, Mbombela, earlier today.

Videos and photos shared by Facebook user Mayidela Mathebula captured the creature walking in the area.

Some community members rushed to protect themselves from the reptile. They suspect it had made its way to the area due to the overflowing rivers in Nkomazi.

Some citizens claimed their dogs are missing, and the crocodile could have eaten them.

Lowvelder approached the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) for comment. Spokesperson Kholofelo Nkambule says an investigation is being conducted. “MTPA officials have reported that the reptile has gone back to the river.”

She urges members of the public to be vigilant and to report similar matters immediately. “Should they encounter this animal again, they must immediately contact the officials who are experienced to handle them, at the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency,” Nkambule adds.
