A light fixed-wing aircraft crashed into a river adjacent to the N14 highway this morning.

An aircraft crash left one dead this morning in the Knoppieslaagte area near the N14 highway in Centurion, Pretoria.

According to Emer-G-Med, the crash happened around 08:00, just adjacent to the highway.

“Upon arrival, a light fixed-wing aircraft was found to have crashed into a river,” the paramedic service says in a statement.

“The pilot, who was the only occupant of the aircraft, was declared dead on arrival of paramedics.”

The accident is being investigated by the SAPS and civil aviation authorities for further investigation and processing.

Olievenhoutbosch police spokesperson Colonel Adolf Corbett confirmed the incident but could not divulge any details at this stage.

“I can confirm there was an aircraft crash this morning, but I cannot provide more [information] as we are still busy at the accident scene,” Corbett says.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso says a water tanker and a rapid intervention unit from the metro responded to the scene.
