Watch: Armed Forces Day off to a bang in KZN
President Cyril Ramaphosa as SANDF commander-in-chief started proceedings with a wreath-laying ceremony in Empangeni.
The City of uMhlathuze in the north-east of KZN is abuzz with military activity this morning as the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) commemorates Armed Forces Day.
The day’s proceedings kicked off with a wreath laying ceremony led by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the World War Monument at the Empangeni Civic Centre. The ceremony will be followed by a military parade in Richards Bay.
“Armed Forces Day honours women and men who have lost their lives in the course of their patriotic duty in the country or on international missions. Furthermore, Armed Forces Day fuels the imagination of young South Africans in terms of choosing career paths and exercising their passion and abilities,” the Presidency’s statement read on Sunday.
