Pretoria police open inquest into woman’s cause of death

A large-scale search operation was launched after Landi Prinsloo's vehicle was found on the Moloto road on Thursday.

Police in Pretoria have confirmed that an inquest into the exact cause of Landi Prinsloo’s death has been opened after her body was recovered on Friday.

Prinsloo was last seen travelling on Kameeldrift Road, northeast of Pretoria at 08:15 on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Warrant-Officer Johan van Dyk says Prinsloo’s body was recovered in the Pienaars River on Friday.

“Police searched in the vicinity of her vehicle and in the river,” adds Van Dyk.

Landi’s car, a white Toyota Prado, was recovered on Moloto road late on Thursday.

Her handbag was found inside but neither Landi nor her cellphone was located at that stage.

Her husband Jann said the Roodeplaat K9 Unit recovered her phone and items of clothing next to the river nearby.

The search party resumed the search the following day when Landi’s body was found at 09:46.

“An inquest has been opened for an investigation to determine the cause of her death,” Van Dyk explains.

Jann extended his gratitude to everyone involved in the effort to find Landi, including the K9 team, drone operators, helicopter support, Advanced Paramedic Assistance, the SAPS, and all the people in the community who came out to help.
