The Sebenza police recently opened an enquiry after a human skull was found at a business in Spartan, Kempton Park.

According to the Sebenza Police Station spokesperson, Sergeant Sharon Tsotsotso, the skull was found inside an industrial water pump on March 15.

Tsotsotso said a mine in Carletonville took the pump to the company for repairs.

She said the pump, from Sibanye Stillwater, is used underground.

“When staff started stripping the pump for repair, the skull was discovered. We have called the Carletonville SAPS to determine if they have any missing person cases related to this incident.

“We are waiting for them to provide us with more information,” said Tsotsotso.

She said although the skull had no obvious injuries, police were waiting for forensics to provide more information on how the individual died.

Tsotsotso said according to information from Sibanye Stillwater, there were no reports of missing miners.

She said police suspect the deceased was an illegal miner because the pump was taken to the Spartan company by a mine.

“Until investigations are complete, no confirmation can be given on who the deceased was or how they died.”

Tsotsotso said this was the first recent discovery of human remains in the Sebenza policing precinct.
