Eskom escalates load-shedding to stage 3

Stage 2 load-shedding was planned to be implemented for evening peak, but the stage had to be heightened according to the power utility.

Stage 3 load-shedding was implemented at 18:11, Eskom says.

The power utility says the escalation is ‘due to a higher than anticipated demand experienced tonight’.

Eskom adds that this stage will continue until 16:00 tomorrow when the schedule they announced this afternoon, will be implemented.

Previously announced schedule

This means that another escalation will follow at 16:00 tomorrow when stage 4 will be implemented for the peak period until 05:00 on Friday.

Stage 3 load-shedding is then set to come into effect at 05:00 on Friday and continue until 05:00 on Saturday when rolling power cuts will be lowered to stage 2.

Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 05:00 on Saturday until 05:00 on Sunday. Stage 1 load-shedding – that citizens are currently experiencing – will again be implemented on Sunday (between 05:00 and 16:00).

Finally, stage 2 power cuts will then return at 16:00.
