No bail for Brakpan detective accused of assaulting wife

Photos of the detective's beaten to the pulp wife was shared on social media and his bail was subsequently revoked.

A Brakpan-based detective accused of assaulting his wife appeared in the Protea Magistrate’s Court in Soweto on Monday where the case was postponed to April 18. He remains in police custody.

Brakpan Herald previously reported that images of the man’s partner, assaulted and beaten to a pulp, were circulated on social media.

According to the social media posts, the woman was refused assistance by both SAPS and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid).

Ipid subsequently issued a statement, in which it clarified the woman was previously assaulted by her partner and the matter was investigated by them.

The officer was arrested but was released on bail by the Protea Magistrate’s Court in August last year.

Ipid also stated it had contacted the victim to ensure she opens another case against her partner, which would be used to apply to court to revoke his bail.
