Video: Ngondwana replaces Campbell as Ekurhuleni mayor

DA councillor Tania Campbell has once again been ousted from her position as a result of a motion of no confidence.

Tania Campbell from the DA was removed as the Ekurhuleni executive mayor through a motion of no confidence yesterday.

She was replaced by councillor Sibuyile Ngondwana from the African Independent Congress at the City of Ekurhuleni’s council meeting.

The voting resulted in 126 in favour of the motion and 91 against it.

The ANC and EFF, and a group of smaller political parties, brought the motion and supported its adoption.

Campbell served as executive mayor for 16 months and in the motion tabled before council, her leadership was described as ‘a serious error of judgement’.

This was Campbell’s second removal from office after the first motion of no confidence against her tabled in October 2022.

It was then reported that after extensive negotiations with opposition parties, Campbell was, in November last year, voted in again as executive mayor.
