Durban restaurant robbery victim dies

The man was one of three patrons who sustained multiple gunshot wounds during a brazen robbery.

One of the patrons shot in a robbery, where gunmen pointed firearms at a child, at an Umgeni Park restaurant in Durban more than two weeks ago has died.

Video footage of the robbery shows how armed men enter Andrea’s Italian Café on Thursday, March 30 and point a gun at a girl (6) and her family before a scuffle ensues wherein three people were shot and injured.

The man who passed away, believed to be in his 70s, was in a serious condition at an uMhlanga hospital.

Kealyn Olivier, chairman of Sector 3, Sub-Forum 4 of the Greenwood Park CPF, confirmed the news of the man’s passing.

“As a community, we are heartbroken for his family. We wish to offer our sincerest condolences to his family and friends. As the Greenwood Park CPF, we are hoping for justice in this case,” he says.

A case of attempted murder and business robbery had been opened at the Greenwood Park SAPS, but it is expected the charges will now include murder.

Owner of the restaurant, Andrea Indrio, earlier told the Northglen News how one of the robbers chased after him with a knife when he ran to get help from a nearby business after he realised they were being robbed.
