Female hitchhiker escapes armed kidnappers by jumping from moving car

A young woman was lucky to escape serious harm after jumping from a speeding vehicle earlier today in Middelburg.

A traumatised woman was targeted by a group of armed suspects in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, earlier today.

The woman was hiking in when a silver Polo stopped next to her near the Middelburg Hospital bend to give her a lift.

She got into the vehicle, and as the car drove away, an occupant pointed a firearm at her and demanded her personal belongings.

When the vehicle slowed down on the hospital bend, the woman made a daring escape by jumping from the moving vehicle.

She struck the road face-first, resulting in numerous abrasions to her face.

A motorist travelling to Middelburg from eMalahleni stopped to assist the woman.

The motorist called emergency services and the police, who arrived at the scene within minutes of receiving the call.

The woman declined ambulance services and told the SAPS she would go to the hospital herself.

A man then arrived on the scene and escorted the woman to the hospital.

She wasn’t seriously injured, despite several abrasions to her face and palms.

She declined to identify herself to the Middelburg Observer.

The police have since issued a be-on-the-lookout for the silver Polo on all major routes around Middelburg.

The woman does not know her attackers.
