A 44-year-old Gauteng Traffic Police provincial inspector Clearance Tlou Kgomo was gunned down and robbed of his service pistol in Pretoria West last night.

According to Gauteng Traffic Department spokesperson Sello Maremane, Kgomo was stationed at Pretoria regional offices as a provincial inspector.

He says the deceased was accosted by unknown assailants near the Saulsville hostel.

The exact details around the shooting are unclear at this stage.

“The assailants are still at large and the deceased’s service pistol is also missing,” Maremane adds.

He says the motive of the shooting was unknown.

“Losing a law enforcement official is a setback to the fight against crime. Kgomo was a symbol of peace to the community and as well as a shade to the community’s protection.”

Maremane says the department cannot continue to be intimidated by the ruthless criminals who terrorise the community.

“The department, in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this cruel murder are arrested,” he adds.

He extends his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Inspector Kgomo.

Maremane appeals to the residents of Saulsville to work together with the police to trace the perpetrators.

“Anyone with information that may assist in apprehending the suspects is encouraged to contact their local police, or send information anonymously,” he concludes.
