Police were on Friday still searching for the three armed men who stormed into the former Bafana Bafana football coach Stanley Tshabalala house and held him and his family at gunpoint.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed the shooting on Friday morning and said the incident happened on Wednesday in Centurion.

“The soccer personality was shot by the suspects and later taken to the nearest medical care centre in a serious but stable condition.”

“It is reported that three suspects who were armed with a firearm and a sharp object stormed Tshabalala’s house and held him and his family at gunpoint.

“The suspects then shot him and took laptops and cellphones from the house.”

Masonda added that police are still looking for suspects.

“Police have opened a case of house robbery and attempted murder for investigation.”

Tshabalala was the first Bafana Bafana head coach when South Africa was readmitted into international soccer in 1992.

He also served as Mamelodi Sundowns coach and has gone on to occupy various prominent positions within Orlando Pirates since 2008.
