A four-year-old Mandeni girl lost her life after a JoJo tank filled with water toppled over onto her on Saturday.

The incident took place at Emantungwini near Mathonsi Primary School in KZN.

Sundumbili police spokesperson Constable Wendy Dludla says according to reports, a water tanker had just filled the tank close to where the girl and other children were playing.

It is not clear what caused the tank to topple.

According to Dludla, the girl’s grandmother said she heard a loud noise. Rushing outside to check, she saw only three children instead of four. On closer inspection, she saw the girl trapped beneath the tank. She called her neighbours and they managed to remove the girl from under the tank.

She was rushed to Sundumbili Clinic where she was declared deceased.
