Ekurhuleni mom and toddler rescued from kidnappers

Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to arrest four suspects who kidnapped a mom and her child.

The police rescued a 29-year-old woman and her three-year-old child in Kagiso after they were kidnapped at their home in Crystal Park, Ekurhuelni, last Thursday.

According to Crystal Park SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Lerato Mopeli, the suspects demanded a ransom of R5m for their release.

“Crystal Park police and members of the Ekurhuleni Trio Task Team responded swiftly and mobilised several other role players.

“It is alleged that the suspects reduced their ransom demands while communicating with the family. The family arranged for the suspects to receive the money at a location in Mohlakeng, in the West Rand.”

Mopeli says as the three suspects collected the ransom at the identified location on Saturday, police arrested them.

The suspects took the police to their hideout, where they held the woman and her child.

The police also arrested a fourth suspect in the West Rand.

The suspects were charged with kidnapping, intimidation and pointing a firearm at someone, and appeared in court.
