A 14-month-old baby girl's death has sparked a police investigation in Ermelo after hospital staff raised concerns over her injuries.

Police in Ermelo are investigating the death of a 14-month-old baby girl after being alerted by staff at Ermelo Provincial Hospital in the early hours of this morning.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson of the Ermelo SAPS, the nursing staff had reported that the baby was brought to the hospital at about 04:00 by her father, who claimed she had fallen from a bed.

However, the infant was declared dead on arrival.

Medical staff raised concerns after observing several injuries on the baby’s body.

Reports indicate that the baby’s neck appeared unstable, and she had multiple bruises in varying stages of healing.

These findings prompted hospital staff to contact the police.
