A KZN car crash left one dead and six injured after a car plunged off a bridge, with the driver allegedly fleeing the scene.

One passenger died and six were seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon when an out-of-control car plunged off a bridge and onto the train tracks below.

The car had been travelling on the link road between the N2 and R102 in Shakaskraal and fell about 50 metres down to the rail tracks below.

According to IPSS spokesperson Samantha Meyrick, the driver allegedly fled the accident scene.

Although this claim is yet to be confirmed, authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

“Four patients were transported under the care of IPSS Medical Rescue Advanced Life Support paramedics to various medical facilities for further care,” said Meyrick.

The link road is known for its steep gradients and sharp curves and has been flagged as unsafe in the past.
