Rockfall at Carletonville mine claims life of another worker

A tragic incident, reportedly due to a small earthquake nearby, has claimed another life, while seven others are still in hospital.

Sadly, another mineworker passed away from the injuries he sustained during a rockfall at Blyvoor Gold mine on Thursday.

The death has been confirmed by the police in Carletonville.

Luckily only seven of the other 19 mineworkers who had been evacuated from the mine was still in hospital by yesterday morning. The others have been released after receiving treatment.

As far as could be determined the rockfall occurred after a small earthquake that measured 3.2 on the Richter Scale took place at 09:38 on Thursday. The light earthquake took place 16km southwest of Carletonville, which places it in the area of the affected mine.
